Flight Delayed, Cancelled or Denied Boarding?

Airhelp is a registered brand of the Chinese company Airhelp Ltd. China and Fairplane is a registered brand of A. Skribe Austria. Claim4Flights and Bott are no EUIPO registered brands but used from these companies.

This article was created with the best of our knowledge. All prices are prices for UK customers.

Let us understand which is the best flight delay compensation company

Claiming compensation for flight delays or cancellations is expensive nowadays. Many flight claim companies have changed their price models in percentage. Thus, it has become difficult for the user to understand how much costs arise with which provider exactly. This leads to inconvenience for the user to pick the best flight claim company.

Thus, we have taken an initiative to test 10 different cases with the respective claim companies and publish the results of their price in numbers and compare their price.

We provide the total cost in numbers, your final compensation shows the amount you will get after the deduction of all costs. This enables you to see what you get after deducting the other charges like a service fee, or admin fees, and VAT.

Choose the right claim company to ask for compensation

The first thing to do before claiming compensation is to make sure that the claim company you choose is a registered legal firm. A registered legal firm might bring the benefit that your claim is insured against bankruptcy and the firm is supervised by the government. In case of issues with a registered legal firm you can turn to the supervision authority and complain about the firm and the government helps you.

If the firm is a “claims farmer” or in an exotic destination you might get issues. There are claim companies who claim to be able to help you with compensation for long delay, but all they’re really doing is getting your details, usually via a website, and then selling your case on to a registered firm or the solicitors! There aren’t many solicitor firms doing these claims.

What are your rights as an air passenger?

According to EU Regulation (EC) No. 261/2004, passengers are entitled to compensation up to €600 for flight delays of 3+ hours, flight cancellations without prior notice of at least 2 weeks, denied boarding due to overbooking, or missed the connecting flight.

In order to be eligible for compensation for a delayed, cancelled or overbooked flight, it should be the airlines’ fault and not due to extraordinary circumstances such as extreme weather or other “force majeure”.

Sometimes it becomes difficult to ask for compensation directly from the airlines, often it’s denied or there is no response to the customer’s letter or email.

So if it does not work out on your own, “Claim Companies” can help you to get the money back – often even in the shortest possible time.

Airhelp, Fairplane, Claim4Flights, Bott and Co Fees Comparison

First of all, one has to say that all the mentioned claim companies offer the customers fair help which is connected with a high amount of work to enforce the air passenger rights in the interest of the customers.

By the start of 2019, many flight claim service providers introduced new pricing systems, including:

  • Total cost over 50% to be represented in court (legal action fee)
  • Systems with price ranges from 25% to 50%
  • Administrative processing fee £25
  • Sometimes difficult to understand discount and voucher systems

Many flight claim companies advertise their charges in percent. However, it’s easier for users to work with absolute numbers. We found that it is fairer if the user knows in advance what amount he has to pay exactly.

Based on EU 261 Rule, the compensation payable is in Euros, thus we have calculated the approximate receivable compensation in euros, after currency conversion from GBP (£) to EUR (€).

Airhelp Fees and Commission

Airhelp (a brand of AirHelp Ltd. registered in CHINA) charges 25% (including applicable VAT) as service fee and 25% (including applicable VAT) as legal action fee if the case has to be presented in court.

In their price list it is written “…If AirHelp is successful with providing Justice as a Service and the Client receives Flight Compensation, AirHelp is entitled to its Service Fee, which will be deducted from Flight Compensation…”. Furthermore “… legal action fee … will be deducted from your Flight Compensation in addition to the Service Fee.

“For other Claims than EC 261 Claims, where the Client is entitled to a compensation between 501 to 600 EUR, the Client will pay a Service Fee of 150 EUR” and “…if Legal Action was necessary to provide successful Justice as a Service…where the Client is entitled to a compensation of 600 EUR, the Client will pay an (additional) Legal Action Fee of 150 EUR. “

That means, if they had to proceed with the legal action in the court, they charge a minimum of 50% for their service. Thus, you only receive up to 50%. And this is only if you are lucky.

There are a lot of Airhelp review in Trustpilot where you can read customers reviews about Airhelp commission, compensation service, airline ranking, flight cancellation compensation, Airhelp jobs and the Airhelp App.

To customers through Online Travel Agency’s (OTA), or any other Corporate Agreements, they might charge a fee equivalent to a combined total of service fee and legal action, i.e. up to 50%.

All information about Airhelp prices was taken from the price list “Published: 2018.02.01” accessed on the 3rd January 2019.
